Good Omens in Interesting Times

Good Omens - Hugo Winner

Good Omens wins the Hugo - Aziraphale and Crowley celebrate

I am sure that many of you will have heard that Good Omens television series recently won the Hugo award for best dramatic presentation (long form) at the CoNZealand WorldCon - against some serious opposition too1

Neil Gaiman gave a short acceptance speech in which he paid tribute to Sir Terry Pratchett, who he felt was there in his imagination, looking over his shoulder during the production and telling him exactly what he thought of it! You can see Neil's speech here. Good Omens is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, and on DVD and BluRay from your favourite purveyor of such goods.

Good Omens: The Musical - in development

Whilst you will all have heard about the Good Omens television series, you may not know about a project to make this amazing book into a stage musical. Good Omens: The Musical is an Australian project, led by Vicki Larnach Hare, Jim Hare and Jay James-Moody. It has great lines and catchy tunes (and the imminent end of the world as we know it)!

Some of the convention committee were lucky enough to see the first full run through last year at Illawarra Performing Arts Centre in Wollongong, NSW. We are delighted to announce that the film of this production will be shown at Nullus Anxietas 7a, followed by a sing along of all those catchy tunes! We know you will be there2.

Wishing you a very Merry Hogswatch

We would like to wish you all a belated very Merry Hogswatch in July. At our recent committee meeting, we were joined by a number of notorious personalities from Ankh-Morpork to celebrate with pork knuckles and sweets. Mrs Cake says that she sees a Discworld Convention in your future.

Charity Starts at home in the library

By tradition, our Discworld conventions have supported two charities. The money is raised through the Charity Auction and the sale of convention merchandise. For the auction, we trawl the DiscRoundworld for rare and unusual Discworld memorabilia. We are always indebted to Colin Smythe, Sir Terry Pratchett's agent, who has donated proof copies3 of Terry's books as well as first print editions in different languages.

Note: if you have some Discworld memorabilia or original artwork that you wish to donate, please contact us - the earlier the better!

In honour of the librarian at Unseen University, one of our charities will be the The Orangutan Project. This is an Australian charity and was founded by Leif Cocks, a world renowned Orangutan expert. Click here to find out more about the Orangutan Project.

International Orangutan Day - 19th August

Also remember that August 19th is International Orangutan Day. To find out more, click here or here. Why not peel a banana (with your feet) to celebrate?

Our other charity will be announced soon.

Reminder on Badge Design Contest

As I mentioned previously, the committee is very keen to use their new badge making machine. They are looking for some Ankh-Morpork or Discworld inspired art for one of our badges to sell as part of a set at the convention. So this is your chance to earn the prestige4 of seeing your artwork on a 7cm badge, proudly worn by your fellow Discworld fans. Click here to find out more details about the competition, and to enter.

More information

Footnotes:

1 Including: Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

2 Because the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter (Witch) say so.

3 Note that there are often only 100 proof copies of the UK editions. As the enterprising Mr. CMOT Dibbler would say "that's almost unique!"

4 And maybe some kudos too.
